Place: Spring Time Club, kalyan

Umang Foundation made this Children's Day special for the underprivileged kids of Kalyan.

About 50 kids spent their day in a Gaming Zone "Spring Time" Club in Kalyan.
The kids were so happy and were not ready to leave the place.
Most of the kids worked as rapickers.
When asked to one of the girls, whether she liked to play or work, she said she liked to work. When asked why, she said, if I play how will I survive. I work, that is why I am here.

Overall, it was a happy day for the kids. And everyone left with a big smile on their faces

Distribution of Clothes among tribal villagers

Members of Umang Foundation have collected clothes from different areas of Mumbai which was supported by more than 300 families and 8-9 corporate have participated in the month of August – September 2010.
Few Umang Members started their day at 6:00 AM and assembled at 07:45 AM at Thane station and move further to Karjat in a group and few directly reached to Karjat Station. Clothes and Toys were already sent to the village well in advance. Now the whole team of 17-18 people heading towards Village.

First destination was a hostel where Team Umang was supposed to meet around 150 children. Team was overwhelmed by the way the hostel staff welcomed us. The children had already gathered at the hostel and a heart warming good morning wishes by the children. Before starting distribution of clothes, brief introduction of Umang Foundation was given by members of Team Umang.
Team Umang make sure that the best available clothes as per individual children size should be given to every children. Hence they shown each and every clothes to children and took a approximate measure and then they give that to children with a punch of smile.

After distribution of clothes among children, team Umang headed towards the wadi which was approximate 2-3 kms from this hostel. This wadi has approximated a residence of approx 350 tribal villagers. Here villager’s main occupation is farming as daily wagers only in the nearby land.
It seems that all villagers were eagerly waiting for the Team Umang to arrive, everyone would like to be the first in queue and wish to get their favourite colour and design of the clothes. Somehow Team Umang were able to manage the crowd who has almost jumped on the Team Umang to get clothes for them.
It was huge smile on their faces after receiving clothes, which shown us as a symbol of greater day and it was only the start. It was also evident that villagers were quite happy with the gesture made by the Members of Umang Foundation. It was our first distribution in this year and similarly Team Umang will reach out more and more remote areas where clothes are required by the tribal villagers or slum area residents.
As the activity ended at 2:00 PM, we could see that the entire village was at Buzz, happy faces here and there. We rounded out for a group photo, some with the villagers, and some with the kids.
As ending our journey at around 2:30 PM the team headed towards a local restaurant called Lucky’s, the team had their share of well deserved lunch. After Lunch at 4:30 PM Team Umang got the local train, which we boarded from Karjat as we headed towards our respective homes.

The activity was not only the eye opener as we were exposed to the ground realities of the society around us, but ended as a new and successful step for Umang Foundation.

Memorable evening at an Old Age home

On a lazy Sunday evening on 25th July 2010, a bunch of enthusiastic and passionate people representing Umang Foundation, took time out to share moments of joy with some old people at an Old Age Home ( H.K.Chainani’s Elder’s Home) in Mulund (E), Mumbai.

The event was started at around 5pm in the evening where members from Umang Foundation started with introducing themselves to make the inmates familiar and comfortable for the complete evening.

A full-on comedy and interesting drama was prepared specially for the evening by Karm Kala Manch – A Theater group based out in Andheri (E). The lead theatre artists and the director of the group were present to demonstrate their skills of acting which brought a huge smile on the faces of the people present on the day.

As we entered the home, there were all dwelling faces and were looking out for a hand to pull them out of their worries for a change. While these people do get fed and clothed, what they lack is someone to hug and talk with and Team Umang along with the theatre group were successful enough to interact and communicate with them to help them forget all their pains and sorrows.

The drama was followed by the musical evening wherein some of the young talent amongst the Team Umang helped in making the evening all the more memorable with their melodious voices. The musical chords were strikened by Mr. Dayal from the Old age home who initiated with a beautiful old hit number “Tum se accha kaun hai “

Old memories were refreshened after listening to some memorable hit romantic numbers sung by Ms.Prashasti Shukla, Mr. Anup Palod, Mr Vishal Jain and other members of Team Umang.

Special requests of devotional songs and old hit songs started pouring in soon after the musical extravaganza began. There were happy faces in the crowd to see the young people spend their time with them when they thought they were left alone by their own kith and kin. As always, what we take away is more than what we give. It’s been rightly said that “Nobody grows old merely by living a number of years. Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul”

This was followed by a energetic and interesting game of Housie wherein "Enthusiasm” to participate, “Competitive Spirit” in playing games and “Family Culture” supporting each other displayed by 60+years’ young fathers & mothers were lessons for all 20+years old working professionals from various backgrounds!!

“Guess the product” was the next game in which most of the TV buffs from the old age home gave a touch competition to each other by guessing the product within a fraction of second!! Gifts were given away to lucky winners. One could see both excitement in the winners' faces and disappointment in those of who lost; exhibiting that there is still a lot of spirit left in them!

A Vote of thanks was given by the Mr Ashok Sahani, Caretaker of H K Chainani Elders Home, filled with wishes and prayers for all. The whole event was organized by humble request by Mr. Kunal Pimpalikar and his whole family, who wished to celebrate “Guru Poornima” in loving memory of his Late Grandmother. The whole Pimpalikar family were seen to be present at the venue to cheer up and help the Umang Foundation’s team in bringing smiles on the faces of our father and mother like figures !!

It was then time to celebrate the birthdays of the inmates who were born in the month of July. Two big cakes were brought in and birthday caps were worn by everybody to cheer up the Birthday Boys J J

Home-made yummy Dinner prepared by Mrs. Pimpalikar was the last on the cards for these inmates in Old Age Home. Team Umang served the dinner to all the inmates and for a change giving a rest to care-takers of Old age home for a day!!

While leaving from the Elders home, everybody seemed to be so overwhelmed by Team Umang efforts that some of them had tears of joy in their eyes!! It was indeed a heart-warming and memorable evening for all of them.

Don’t they wish to celebrate Diwali, Christmas, Id or Guru Poornima with their families as we do?

Don’t they wish to live, chat and share their feelings with their own family as we do?

Just imagine how they feel without their dear ones. They wake up every morning with a hope that their dear ones will definitely come to meet them and take them back this day. But every night is disappointing. And this cycle becomes a part of their life. Needless to say, Umang Foundation gave them a little regard and they showered tons of blessings on them.

This visit to old age home was a learning experience for all of them and after this, they hoped that none of us could ever think of sending our parents to old age home. The evening ended with a promise to re-visit the home to learn and share some more moments with them!!

A step outside our goal in helping these old people is very essential, FOR, they are the parents without whom we would not be where we are TODAY!!!!

This was Umang Foundation's 156th event

Students are back to school with UMANG

153rd Umang Foundation’s Activity
Distribution of Notebooks and Stationery Material among 1000+ less fortunate students

2nd Anniversary of Umang Foundation
Students are back to school with UMANG

Just when you think most students dread going back to school after a nice long summer holiday, the students of Matoshri Ramabai Ambedkar Vidhyalaya and Amrapali Vidhyalaya in Ulhasnagar did just the opposite.

Up and about in the early hours of June 19, 2010, Members of Umang Foundation have reached the school but for a surprise all school students were already gathered and eagerly waiting team Umang.

Umang Team has personally thanked to each of the school teachers who has visited each student's home to make sure 100% attendance on the day. This was Umang Foundation’s 153rd activity of distributing of Notebooks and Stationery Material among 1000+ less fortunate students.

Umang Team also thanked Mr Sharad from Kalyan Childlin and volunteers of 'Kalyan Childline' who have helped to identify correct students in this school of Ulhasnagar (W).

The event kick started with much fervor by founder Ashish Goyal, who enthralled hoards of students with his fun energy and enthusiasm. Appreciation was the key word here, as team Umang congratulated the toppers from each class with flowers. The drive consisted of Umang Foundations dynamic members distributing books and stationery items, and entertaining school students from nearby slum area.

With much anticipation and excitement, Umang Foundation’s 153rd event was a success. But the event just did not end here. More than 1000 students and pupils were in full attendance to experience 50 trees being planted at the school campus for a green and clean environment. Students, teachers and volunteers together helped plant Ashoka trees, Almond trees and Neem trees.

“Umang Foundation is a boon for us. We feel privileged to have such a highly positioned people in our premises today and deeply thankful to this young team for bringing smiles on the face of our students,” exclaimed Gokul T Pawar, Principal, Matoshri Ramabai Ambedkar Vidhyalaya, Ulhasnagar - 3.

“We could not think of a better way to begin our new academic year. We love the quality of the books and the stationery. This will certainly make our studies much more interesting and will act as impetus for us to do better,” said Savita Rambhau Gore (15 years), Student, Matoshri Ramabai Ambedkar Vidhyalaya, Ulhasnagar - 3.

“The parents of these students are extremely poor. They cannot even afford to give them basic necessities hence most school children end up working at a very small age. In spite of our efforts many students quit studying. But, initiatives like this will inspire students and help them realize the value of education. Umang Foundation - Promote Education initiative is a stepping stone in the future of education,” asserts Jitendra Barhate, Teacher, Amrapali Vidhyalaya.

Umang Foundation has continued its efforts to promote education among underprivileged children by initiating such events so as to support students who cannot afford basic school necessities. “It was a pleasant surprise to watch students display an innocent smile across their face. It was the feel-good factor that makes initiatives like these worthwhile. We at Umang Foundation have various such plans in the near future and for which we are thankful to all those people who have supported us,” explains Ashish Goyal, founder, Umang Foundation.

Medical Check-up Camp – One Step towards “Healthy” Living

It has been rightly said by Buddha “Health is the greatest gift, contentment the greatest wealth, faithfulness the best relationship”

So, this Friday Umang Foundation’s young team decided to give the residents of Rahul Nagar – Slum Area in Mulund (W) a gift of Good health with the faithful medical assistance by medical professionals. The objective of the camp was not only to conduct check ups but also to inform and educate the participants on many simple tips of healthy living. It is also very important to know as rains are on their way to strike city of Mumbai.

It all began on a bright Friday morning with setting up counters and medicines to help the residents easily understand the process of health check-up. There were counters for:

• Registration
• Height and Weight Measurement
• Blood Pressure
• Blood Sugar Level
• ENT Examination
• Orthopedic Examination
• Physiotherapist
• Detailed Eye Check up
• Counseling to patients about Healthy Living
• A series of Lecture on Cancer Awareness
• General Physical examination

A team of 30+ responsible doctors and technicians were made available to the slum residents and they were seen giving personal attention to each of the participant’s habits and symptoms. Venue for the camp was Jai Bharat School, Mulund Colony, Mulund (W). A word about this medical camp was already spread, through banners and personal visit to every home by volunteers

As the day moved further, people from nearby localities started pouring in huge numbers. People with different age-groups, were seen waiting for their turn at the registration desk. Around 150 residents completed their check-ups in mere two and half hours of the event. Some of the patients who were suffering from common ailments were given free medicines by the team.

Series of Lecture on Cancer Awareness was also given by eminent doctors.

Post-Lunch period was no different either; people kept flooding in for check-up which was a good sign of awareness created by the Team Umang. Before the day ended, 300+ residents successfully completed their check-ups and a few had been referred to Specialist Doctors for further treatment.

All the helpful and generous doctors were given a Certificate of Appreciation for supporting the Umang team in such a noble cause. These Doctors were more than happy and eager to give their support in many such events to be held in near future as without them the event would not have become a hit among the residents.

Precaution is always better than cure and such check-up camps do help the common man to understand his body structure and take precautionary measures as per his eating habits. If every youth of India takes a simple step towards creating a healthy atmosphere around his place then surely medicines and diseases would be just a part of history.

Umang Foundation and its team have planned similar check-up camps in every month to build up a habit of healthy living among all.

This was Umang Foundation’s 152nd event.

Professionals on a mission to make other lives better

Date : 26-April-2010
Courtsey : DNA, Mumbai

http://www.dnaindia.com/mumbai/report_professionals-on-a-mission-to-make-other-lives-better_1375593

Mumbai: Mulund-based eye surgeon Dr Vinod Goyal always believed that “enthusiasm of the young, coupled with the experience of elders, makes for the perfect combination.” It was during one of his chats with his nephew Ashish Goyal, 24-year-old software professional, that the doctor sensed an opportunity to put his belief into practice.

In his capacity as a medical professional, Vinod Goyal has been running a free OPD for poor patients every Saturday at his clinic for the past 13 years. Also, he has been organising free eye camps and awareness camps in civic body-run schools at Bhandup, Mulund, Thane, Powai and Navi Mumbai.

“My nephew said he too wanted to contribute towards the society in some way. So I told him to put his expertise as a software professional to good use, just the way I was putting my medical knowledge to use,” said Goyal, who offered young Ashish complete support if the latter managed to collect some like-minded youngsters and start a charity foundation.

And that’s how Umang Foundation was born. Two years on, the team at Umang Foundation now comprises about 220-odd professionals from various sectors like IT, management and finance. The young volunteers have already organised 141 activities for social welfare. Most volunteers have weekends off and so that is when the activities are conducted.

“Umang aims at doing one activity for the society every week. Be it spending time at a home for the aged or teaching street children or donating blood,” said Ashish Goyal, who has worked with an investment bank for three years. With almost 50% of the volunteers being IT professionals, not surprisingly, internet is the preferred tool of communication for Umang’s network.

“We communicate with each other through e-mails all through the week and decide on one particular event every weekend,” said Sweta Singh, 24, a software professional with Hexaware Technologies Ltd. Singh, a Bhandup-resident, who wanted to do her bit for the society, simply ‘googled’ for ‘NGOs in Mumbai’, and chanced upon Umang’s contacts in July 2009. “I liked the concept and enjoyed the very first activity. We went to three schools in Dombivili and distributed stationary to students,” she said.

“Umang is open to anyone who wants to join, provided he/she is willing to do something good for the society,” said Ashish Goyal, who with his uncle is one of the founder members of Umang. “We have visited urban slums and tribal villages. Since January this year, we have organised blood donation camps, medical camps in slums, clothes distribution drives in Bhivpuri and Kadav villages in Karjat, and also a Mumbai darshan trip for cancer patients,” he said.

Over the next few weekends, Umang plans to organise more blood donation camps and are looking for sponsors to educate gifted poor children. For more information about Umang Foundation and its activities, visit www.umangfoundation.org or write into education@umangfoundation.org.

An extravagant musical evening at an Next - Inning Home

“Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life” Such quotes are heard many a times but we hardly get time to understand it in real sense.

This Sunday, Team Umang explained the true meaning of this by organizing a musical evening for the residents of next inning home in Mulund (East). Inmates of Next Inning Home had an exciting musical evening this Sunday which was a truly unforgettable for most of the people present at the venue.

It all started when Team Umang decided to visit the Old Age home in Mulund east, to give an evening filled with excitement, music and happiness for the house members. Activity Details and the basic flow of the program was discussed and planned with the cordial support of Mr. Ashok Sahani who manages the Old age home. Young Old people living there had started preparations for this event 2 weeks prior to the actual event.

Evening started with an entertainment section where in evergreen old songs were sung by members of Team Umang (Muni Raman, Anup Palod, Roli Sharma, Pooja Goyal, Jimmy Sanghvi, Sweta Singh, Amrapali and Garima Goyal). The heart-touching romantic songs and the singing skills motivated the house members to showcase their hidden talents and then began the talent hunt among all the house members. It became very tough for the Team Umang to decide upon the most talented person among all, as everybody was just at par in excellence. Seeing the high energy level of inmates it is was really difficult to select one or two person out of the whole group.

A Karaoke set was arranged specially for this musical concert. Members of Team Umang –cum- Singers of Team Umang continued singing for around two hours on demand of the house members.

Songs like ‘Neele Neele Ambar pe’, ‘Rang barse’, ‘Mere Angne mein’ and many others saw huge applaud from the members. Some of the house members just couldn’t resist themselves from dancing on these popular songs. Dancing, Singing, Bhajans continued for the major part of the evening just because of the active participation of house members.

Next section comprises of lots of interesting games exclusively planned for the evening.

A Simple game of Chanting ‘Om’ for the maximum time flagged off the Game section. Few Tongue twisters were introduced among the inmates to create a funny atmosphere. But, some of the aunties were so superior in this art of repeating tongue twisters that the spectators were just spellbound and surprised. An Exciting game of Housie was also played among all the inmates. Winners were given on the spot prizes for their marvelous enthusiasm for participating in the games.

Birthday Celebration of two house members was scheduled next. Cake was brought in by the volunteers for Ms Devi Kolani and Mr. Ghanshyam Das, birthday mates for the month of March. Decoration, Birthday Caps and Cake cutting ceremony made them recollect their young days where birthdays were always celebrated in families. Ms Devi Kolani, said “ I am feeling like I am in my family after having such a grand celebration"

The old age home members followed a strict discipline of having dinner, so the music fun and enjoyment had to be stopped for dinner time. During dinner time Pav Bhaji, Fruit Salad and Kaju Katli was arranged and served by the Team Umang. Delicious food was just like the icing on the cake for the evening. Team Umang also fulfilled the household requirements of the old age home by providing Rice, Oil and Tea in bulk.

Mr. Ashok Sahani, Care-taker of Old Age home, was quoted as “Umang Foundation and its members have done an wonderful job today by giving their precious weekend time to this old age home. Faces of the house members were just glowing with the smiles, and this could only happen due to the heart-ful team work of Umang Foundation”

“Team Umang is determined to bring positive change and spread smile all over with such events” added Ashish Goyal, Founder Umang Foundation.
House members specifically took promises from each of the volunteer to return and organize many such events for them. The mere five hours of time brought all of the house members close to the Team Umang and they wished the evening did not end so early. Team Umang have promised to organize similar events in future too because, Life is not Life, if it’s not lived for others!!!

This was Umang Foundation’s 141st event.

Mumbai Darshan for Cancer Patients (100 Children)

Umang Foundation a Mumbai based NGO actively works for the welfare of children in the city and has organized many activities for the welfare of children.

This time on Sunday, February 21, 2010, Umang Foundation organized a Mumbai Darshan Trip for approx 100 children suffering from cancer; these children are from under privileged families who are undergoing treatment at Tata Memorial Hospital, Parel.

With the hospital co-operation Umang successfully pulled off the this task of taking approx 100 cancer patients on a joy ride.

Joy ride was managed with 3 buses waiting outside the hospital premise and each bus got full with laughter of 30- 35 children and 15-20 volunteers. It was nothing less than a picnic for the children.

As per the pre-scheduled plan, all 3 buses moved towards Nehru Science Center, where lunch was served to all the children then science centre to look into. Children saw everything and learnt about basic science in interactive sessions with Team Umang, as Team Umang revised our long forgotten science lessons in school. The marvels of science pulled them as was evident in their eager faces, brightened eyes as was evident in their smiles.

Every member of Team Umang had their own 4-5 children to look after. Outside the Nehru Science Center, all gathered for a memorable photo session which no one could have missed for anything. Life gives one moment just once and this was one such moment, real beautiful smiles and cheese moment of children and Team Umang. After spending around 3 hrs at Nehru Science Centre, the children settled in bus for rest, cool breeze and small refreshment of juice and popcorn which kept their energy levels up, as they were driven to next stop.

The next destination being Taraporevala Aquarium, the children accompanied by volunteers were taken in Aquarium, As they walked seeing the huge mammoth skeleton of shark awed and thrilled both and moved onto different exotic marine lives, taking in the shapes and forms of these different fishes, few of them which really held kids attention was sea horse, sea snake, turtles, neon fish etc.

At the aquarium, they found Mickey Mouse, Scooby Doo and Tweety eagerly waiting to entertain them. The only sound which could be heard for some time was squeals of laughter, excitement and Kodak "Say Cheeeese" moments with the dancing comic characters. The kids, who now were fully charged climbed up buses with these mascots accompanying them, laughing… singing… playing Antakshri…

After having wonderful time at Aquarium, children reached the wonder monument- Gateway of India. Fully secured in the Human-Chain of Team Umang around them… eating refreshments, chocolates and biscuits…as the sun was going down the horizon, cool breeze, dance of mascots and fun, accompanied with them.

Team Umang, who kept secured these children so that nobody gets lost. By this time every child was tired but still raring to go, all headed to Girgaum Chowpaty, they were greeted by cool breeze of sea, the tingling sensation of sand under their feet and a beautiful sunset landscape.

All children and their care takers were settled in a secure Human Chain of Team Umang on sand, eating burgers and seeing the beauty of sea at dusk. Their contended faces was the reward of the Team Umang for that beautiful day.

A befitting end to the day was a drive around Queen’s Necklace, as the lights of Mumbai glimmered and shimmered… shining like fireflies at night.

It was indeed a magical quiet moment for both…as the silent prayers flew from members of Team Umang to give more in life to these kids who had such innocent faces, young age and so much to look forward.

The spirit of these kids, the zest, the enthusiasm, the smiles were contagious as Members of Team Umang found friends in them.

As the tour was coming to an end, another surprise was in store for them, gifts wrapped in shimmering gift wraps added curiosity and another broad grin to their faces as they eagerly thanked...thanks was actually the thing we in Team Umang should have given them for giving us their day, showing us how privileged we are to be healthy and normal.

One could just see the dream in their eyes and no tiredness or fatigue even as the day and tour ended and they were being dropped back to hospital. Some of their hugs will never be forgotten by Members of Team Umang.

Surprisingly, even seeing the hospital there was not even slightest change in expression of contentment. There was no compliant in their eyes for why god gave them this disease.

The take away(s) for Members of Team Umang were many but the one that will remain etched in all our minds is that as we make small-small petty issue complaints in life we should always remember the saying "I cried for shoes, until I saw somebody without legs".

Mr. Deshmukh, Tour Coordinator from Tata Memorial Hospital, Parel was personally thanking each and every Umang member present in the event. He said “In our society, Cancer patients were always treated as untouchables and majority of the people don’t prefer interacting with them, but Team Umang proved that nothing can hamper love, care and true feelings of a person and any illness can be cured by a pure heart”.

Ashish Goyal, Founder, Umang Foundation said “there’s always more to life and these kind of events give us a moment to thank god that we all are healthy and on the same hand we should not forget to spread happiness, love and affection by all means among others”. He also promised to organize similar events on a regular basis to motivate and encourage the children.

This was Umang Foundation’s 138th activity.

Republic Day celebrations 2010

Creating Umang among Young India

26Th Jan 2010: Public Holidays are generally considered as a break from hectic work schedule and a mode of relaxation but for Umang Foundation’s team, this was the day for celebration not only among themselves but among 200 street / orphan / single parent children.

Around 30 team members of Umang Foundation gathered at St. John Baptist Special School in Thane (W) to mark the celebration of Republic Day. Though the event was planned by the team 4 weeks before, last minute preparations had started at 7.30 am in the morning.

The school’s terrace was artistically decorated with tri-color balloons by a group of professionals. All the members of the team were seen in traditional ethnic wear with Indian flags attached to their dresses. Just after all pre-event arrangements were completed, kids from various places started coming in for the much awaited event. At around 11.15 am, the terrace was completely occupied with 200 innocent kids and their teachers. Father Joe de Gama, Incharge – Aasara along with Aasara team was also present to motivate the children and Team Umang.

At 11:30 am, event was kick started by Sharad Tripathi with National Anthem by everyone which was followed by Magic Show by Magician Sooraj, his magical tricks really amazed the kids and other audience present in the hall. Some of the lucky kids even got a chance to be a part of Magician’s tricks at the stage which made other kids all the more excited about the Magic show.

Dance competition added an extra edge to the event. Participants were ready with their songs and costumes. These kids had rehearsed their performance beforehand and as expected they did rock the stage with their fantabulous moves.

Judges for this competition were
(1) Mr. Raj P (Lead Choreographer, Dance Villa),
(2) Ms. Vandana Mittal (TV Actress)
(3) Ms Jimmy Sanghvi.

All 3 judges are experts in the field of dancing and choreography but still they thought children’s performances were mind-blowing. “Judging the Solo and Group performances was a real tough task as everyone was better than others” said Raj.

Keeping in mind children’s taste for food, Pav Bhaji and Gulabjamun was served to the children in Lunch. All the children enjoyed the tasty dishes and were seen contented and satisfied after eating it. Lunch brought an extra energy and zeal among these children and on the spot entries for Dance competition increased drastically. Mr. Manmohan Tiwari, one of Umang member and a fame of popular TV show (Rakhi ka Swayamvar), then added the fun and entertainment of the event with his dancing and comparing skills.

Drawing and Painting competition was next on the cards. Drawing sheets, Compass boxes with Pencil, Ruler, Sharpener, Eraser and Crayons were provided by the Team Umang to each and every child. Then, children were divided into 3 age groups :
(1) Below 8 years,
(2) 8-12 years
(3) 12 years and above,

depending on their age groups, different topics were given to the children for drawing.

Mrs. Mini Suboth, expert in Fine Arts was invited for judging these talented children. She was stunned by the imagination of the children. These children are very impressive as many of them (in below 8 years category) completed their sketch along with color filling within 5-7 minutes with complete perfection, said Mini Suboth.

Till all the judges made up their minds about the winners, evening snacks of Samosa, Slice cake and chocolates were distributed among all the children. Children were seen busy enjoying the delicious snacks with their friends and waited to know about the winners.

After snacks, on the spot prizes were given to the kids for the winners of Quiz Competition. Gaurav Gujare, Umang Quiz Master, had prepared the quiz questions to make the session interactive, but the overwhelming response he got from the kids was truly amazing. There were hardly any questions left, which the smart children didn’t answer said Gaurav.

Fancy Dress competition was next on cards for the Special Celebration and the participants were prepared to strike their performances for this competition too.

(1) Mr Raj P (Lead Choreographer),
(2) Ms Vandana Mittal (TV Actress)
(3) Ms Jyotsana Chandola (TV Actress)

were there to judge the children for fancy dress competition. Prize Distribution followed thereafter to felicitate the winners in all competitions.

Dance competition winners were given a coupon for Shamak Davar’s Classes along with other prizes.

“This is truly amazing experience of life, I am celebrating Republic Day with some different experience which will be memorable for rest of my life” said Sharad Tripathi (Known TV Screenplay and script writer for more than 30 shows)

Father Joe de Gama from Aasara said “We are highly grateful to Umang Foundation and its pro-active team for organizing this event on such a large scale and not cancelling this long-awaited event due to motorman’s strike which was later called off”.

“Our idea of organizing this event is to entertain children, mark the importance of Republic Day and identify talented children and give them training under experts who will guide them further to sharpen the skills” said Ashish Goyal, Founder Umang Foundation.

It’s been rightly said by somebody, “Where there is a will, there is a way”. Team Umang had purity and true spirit of organizing this event in their hearts, and hence this was their 136th successful event for the Umang Foundation.

Bringing smile with a noble thought

Clothes Distribution Drive in Village Near Karjat

This week Team Umang gathered in to the ancestral village Jammruk near Kadav of Karjat district for their 8th cloth distribution drive. Team Umang have gathered at Bhivpuri station (before Karjat) at 9 am in the morning, from there journey begins to Jammruk village. Team Umang reached there at 11 am.

A huge crowd gathered on the site of the camp made us feel pleased about the step Umang Foundation has taken, but at the same time it was heart wrenching to see the poverty so clearly etched in their faces. Despite their eagerness, they were very well behaved again to our very pleasant surprise. One pair of cloths has been distributed to everyone gathered in the camp.

The whole event was managed very well and the distribution took place in a very orderly manner with some children putting on the clothes the very instant they received them! And to think that the reason for their beaming faces was lying forgotten all the while in junk cupboards most likely to be thrown away in a bin! This event underlined for us the importance of small endeavors we undertake and the profound effect they have.

At this juncture we would like to express a heartfelt thanks to all members who sacrificed their weekend and chose to work under the burning sun for the same. It gave us immense pleasure to see that the smiles which this simple gesture put on the faces of the workers were a reward high enough for all those involved in the camp.

Umang Foundation is also planning similar drives every month to provide stuffs to less fortunate villagers.

Medical Check-up Camp – One Step towards “Healthy” Living

It has been rightly said by Buddha “Health is the greatest gift, contentment the greatest wealth, faithfulness the best relationship”

So, this Sunday Umang Foundation’s young team decided to give the residents of Vidyavihar a gift of Good health with the faithful medical assistance by medical professionals including doctors from JJ hospital. The objective of the camp was not only to conduct check ups but also to inform and educate the participants on first aid, eating habits, precautionary measures, ill effects of narcotics etc.

It all began on a bright Sunday morning with setting up counters and medicines to help the residents easily understand the process of health check-up. There were counters for:

• Registration

• Height and Weight Measurement

• Blood Pressure

• Blood Sugar Level

• Physical examination

A team of 12 responsible doctors were made available to the residents and they were seen giving personal attention to each of the participant’s habits and symptoms. Venue for the camp being Rotary Club’s Nana-Nani park, Rotary Club members also were seen strongly supporting the young energetic Team Umang. A word about this medical camp was already spread, through local newspapers and pamphlets.

As the day moved further, people from nearby localities started pouring in huge numbers. People with different age-groups, were seen waiting for their turn at the registration desk. Around 200 residents completed their check-ups in mere two and half hours of the event. Some of the patients who were suffering from common ailments were given free medicines by the team.

Post-Lunch period was no different either; people kept flooding in for check-up which was a good sign of awareness created by the Umang team. Before the day ended, 350 residents successfully completed their check-ups and a few had been referred to Specialist Doctors for further treatment.

All the helpful and generous doctors were given a Certificate of Appreciation for supporting the Umang team in such a noble cause. These Doctors were more than happy and eager to give their support in many such events to be held in near future. Rotary Club members were also thanked gratefully by the Umang team, as without them the event would not have become a hit among the residents.

Total Patients: 350

New Year Celebration

New Year... New 'Umang’…

Creating UMANG (as always) in an Orphanage was the main motive of UMANG members on this New Year. The destination was 'SHARNAM' - A Shelter for Girls in Matunga.Though the 'FUN’ day started post-lunch, but the enthusiasm and zeal of girls in Orphanage was appreciable.

It all began with a 'Magic Show' organized for the girls of age-group (6-14 yrs). All Girls were seen engrossed in watching the tricks of magic and enjoying the wonderful act by Magician 'Mr Sooraj.

'Housie' Game was next on the cards for the Girls. A spark of Winning Attitude was observed in practically every little girl in the room. Four early bird prizes were distributed to the winners by the Umang members.

A quiz show was then planned for the girls by Umang member ‘Gaurav Gujare’. He proactively had involved all the girls in the room in his easy but tricky questions. Prizes were distributed on every correct answer to motivate these girls. It was observed that all the girls were so sharp in memory that they remembered each and every Umang member's name even if they spoke to him/her just once.

New Year Celebration without Dance and music always sounds incomplete. So, to make the atmosphere more lively, some girls presented a beautiful group dance on a devotional song. These girls had a dream to perform on a bigger platform at a popular dance show Dance India Dance. Audiences (Umang Members) were spell bound by their talent and performance. Their talent then motivated all the other girls and Umang members to have a dance session on their favorite songs.Umang members also got an opportunity to learn few steps by these young girls.

One of the Umang member ‘Abhilasha Kale’ rightly commented, "This is the first time young children are creating UMANG among all so much that Umang Foundation in real sense served its purpose of organizing this event."

We can truly call them an IT generation since many of them are present on Facebook. And they took e-mail ids from Umang Members. These kids are well versed with what happening in the world. They enjoy study as well as other activities like sports and dance.

Umang Foundation had contributed and raised funds to distribute some gifts for all the girls of the shelter. Girls were thankful to the Team Umang for having bags, personal pouches, table books, sketch pens, cookies and chocolates with added love and care for them. Team Umang have also contributed for yearly soaps and toothpastes of these kids.

The caretaker and founder of ‘SHARNAM’ appreciated the young Team Umang by presenting them a small memorable gift. Good wishes for the Team Umang were just an implicit thing to mention about.Justify Full

This was Umang’s 129th activity. Umang members had thus started their New Year on a very good note.

Kudos to UMANG Foundation!!
