This year the Republic Day in Thane and Mulund was saw various organisations hosting several events involving children.
The children of Shruti Park near Dokali Naka, Thane (W), had a field day planting about 500 saplings in their society premises.
"More than 50 school going students of Shruti Park planted 550 saplings of Golden Duranta, a flowering plant along with few other flowering species.
The members of the society donated the saplings. We have a ground in our society and thus all these saplings were planted there," said Shankar Talwar, a resident.
In another event, Umang Foundation, an organization of young professionals, had organised a special Republic Day treat for more than 200 orphaned children and single parents in Thane. The event was held in the St. John Baptist Special School in Thane (W).
Elsewhere, AIUCL, a group of professionals who come together for social causes in Mulund and Bhandup, distributed 2,000 greeting cards saying "Say `NO' to Suicide and `YES' to Life".
