"More than 50 school going students of Shruti Park planted 550 saplings of Golden Duranta, a flowering plant along with few other flowering species.

The members of the society donated the saplings. We have a ground in our society and thus all these saplings were planted there," said Shankar Talwar, a resident.

Creating Umang among Young India

26Th Jan 2010: Public Holidays are generally considered as a break from hectic work schedule and a mode of relaxation but for Umang Foundation’s team, this was the day for celebration not only among themselves but among 200 street / orphan / single parent children.

Around 30 team members of Umang Foundation gathered at St. John Baptist Special School in Thane (W) to mark the celebration of Republic Day. Though the event was planned by the team 4 weeks before, last minute preparations had started at 7.30 am in the morning.

The school’s terrace was artistically decorated with tri-color balloons by a group of professionals. All the members of the team were seen in traditional ethnic wear with Indian flags attached to their dresses. Just after all pre-event arrangements were completed, kids from various places started coming in for the much awaited event. At around 11.15 am, the terrace was completely occupied with 200 innocent kids and their teachers. Father Joe de Gama, Incharge – Aasara along with Aasara team was also present to motivate the children and Team Umang.

At 11:30 am, event was kick started by Sharad Tripathi with National Anthem by everyone which was followed by Magic Show by Magician Sooraj, his magical tricks really amazed the kids and other audience present in the hall. Some of the lucky kids even got a chance to be a part of Magician’s tricks at the stage which made other kids all the more excited about the Magic show.

Dance competition added an extra edge to the event. Participants were ready with their songs and costumes. These kids had rehearsed their performance beforehand and as expected they did rock the stage with their fantabulous moves.

Judges for this competition were
(1) Mr. Raj P (Lead Choreographer, Dance Villa),
(2) Ms. Vandana Mittal (TV Actress)
(3) Ms Jimmy Sanghvi.

All 3 judges are experts in the field of dancing and choreography but still they thought children’s performances were mind-blowing. “Judging the Solo and Group performances was a real tough task as everyone was better than others” said Raj.

Keeping in mind children’s taste for food, Pav Bhaji and Gulabjamun was served to the children in Lunch. All the children enjoyed the tasty dishes and were seen contented and satisfied after eating it. Lunch brought an extra energy and zeal among these children and on the spot entries for Dance competition increased drastically. Mr. Manmohan Tiwari, one of Umang member and a fame of popular TV show (Rakhi ka Swayamvar), then added the fun and entertainment of the event with his dancing and comparing skills.

Drawing and Painting competition was next on the cards. Drawing sheets, Compass boxes with Pencil, Ruler, Sharpener, Eraser and Crayons were provided by the Team Umang to each and every child. Then, children were divided into 3 age groups :
(1) Below 8 years,
(2) 8-12 years
(3) 12 years and above,

depending on their age groups, different topics were given to the children for drawing.

Mrs. Mini Suboth, expert in Fine Arts was invited for judging these talented children. She was stunned by the imagination of the children. These children are very impressive as many of them (in below 8 years category) completed their sketch along with color filling within 5-7 minutes with complete perfection, said Mini Suboth.

Till all the judges made up their minds about the winners, evening snacks of Samosa, Slice cake and chocolates were distributed among all the children. Children were seen busy enjoying the delicious snacks with their friends and waited to know about the winners.

After snacks, on the spot prizes were given to the kids for the winners of Quiz Competition. Gaurav Gujare, Umang Quiz Master, had prepared the quiz questions to make the session interactive, but the overwhelming response he got from the kids was truly amazing. There were hardly any questions left, which the smart children didn’t answer said Gaurav.

Fancy Dress competition was next on cards for the Special Celebration and the participants were prepared to strike their performances for this competition too.

(1) Mr Raj P (Lead Choreographer),
(2) Ms Vandana Mittal (TV Actress)
(3) Ms Jyotsana Chandola (TV Actress)

were there to judge the children for fancy dress competition. Prize Distribution followed thereafter to felicitate the winners in all competitions.

Dance competition winners were given a coupon for Shamak Davar’s Classes along with other prizes.

“This is truly amazing experience of life, I am celebrating Republic Day with some different experience which will be memorable for rest of my life” said Sharad Tripathi (Known TV Screenplay and script writer for more than 30 shows)

Father Joe de Gama from Aasara said “We are highly grateful to Umang Foundation and its pro-active team for organizing this event on such a large scale and not cancelling this long-awaited event due to motorman’s strike which was later called off”.

“Our idea of organizing this event is to entertain children, mark the importance of Republic Day and identify talented children and give them training under experts who will guide them further to sharpen the skills” said Ashish Goyal, Founder Umang Foundation.

It’s been rightly said by somebody, “Where there is a will, there is a way”. Team Umang had purity and true spirit of organizing this event in their hearts, and hence this was their 136th successful event for the Umang Foundation.

Bringing smile with a noble thought

Clothes Distribution Drive in Village Near Karjat

This week Team Umang gathered in to the ancestral village Jammruk near Kadav of Karjat district for their 8th cloth distribution drive. Team Umang have gathered at Bhivpuri station (before Karjat) at 9 am in the morning, from there journey begins to Jammruk village. Team Umang reached there at 11 am.

A huge crowd gathered on the site of the camp made us feel pleased about the step Umang Foundation has taken, but at the same time it was heart wrenching to see the poverty so clearly etched in their faces. Despite their eagerness, they were very well behaved again to our very pleasant surprise. One pair of cloths has been distributed to everyone gathered in the camp.

The whole event was managed very well and the distribution took place in a very orderly manner with some children putting on the clothes the very instant they received them! And to think that the reason for their beaming faces was lying forgotten all the while in junk cupboards most likely to be thrown away in a bin! This event underlined for us the importance of small endeavors we undertake and the profound effect they have.

At this juncture we would like to express a heartfelt thanks to all members who sacrificed their weekend and chose to work under the burning sun for the same. It gave us immense pleasure to see that the smiles which this simple gesture put on the faces of the workers were a reward high enough for all those involved in the camp.

Umang Foundation is also planning similar drives every month to provide stuffs to less fortunate villagers.

Medical Check-up Camp – One Step towards “Healthy” Living

It has been rightly said by Buddha “Health is the greatest gift, contentment the greatest wealth, faithfulness the best relationship”

So, this Sunday Umang Foundation’s young team decided to give the residents of Vidyavihar a gift of Good health with the faithful medical assistance by medical professionals including doctors from JJ hospital. The objective of the camp was not only to conduct check ups but also to inform and educate the participants on first aid, eating habits, precautionary measures, ill effects of narcotics etc.

It all began on a bright Sunday morning with setting up counters and medicines to help the residents easily understand the process of health check-up. There were counters for:

• Registration

• Height and Weight Measurement

• Blood Pressure

• Blood Sugar Level

• Physical examination

A team of 12 responsible doctors were made available to the residents and they were seen giving personal attention to each of the participant’s habits and symptoms. Venue for the camp being Rotary Club’s Nana-Nani park, Rotary Club members also were seen strongly supporting the young energetic Team Umang. A word about this medical camp was already spread, through local newspapers and pamphlets.

As the day moved further, people from nearby localities started pouring in huge numbers. People with different age-groups, were seen waiting for their turn at the registration desk. Around 200 residents completed their check-ups in mere two and half hours of the event. Some of the patients who were suffering from common ailments were given free medicines by the team.

Post-Lunch period was no different either; people kept flooding in for check-up which was a good sign of awareness created by the Umang team. Before the day ended, 350 residents successfully completed their check-ups and a few had been referred to Specialist Doctors for further treatment.

All the helpful and generous doctors were given a Certificate of Appreciation for supporting the Umang team in such a noble cause. These Doctors were more than happy and eager to give their support in many such events to be held in near future. Rotary Club members were also thanked gratefully by the Umang team, as without them the event would not have become a hit among the residents.

Precaution is always better than cure and such check-up camps do help the common man to understand his body structure and take precautionary measures as per his eating habits. If every youth of India takes a simple step towards creating a healthy atmosphere around his place then surely medicines and diseases would be just a part of history.

Umang Foundation and its team have planned similar check-up camps in every month to build up a habit of healthy living among all.

New Year Celebration

New Year... New 'Umang’…

Creating UMANG (as always) in an Orphanage was the main motive of UMANG members on this New Year. The destination was 'SHARNAM' - A Shelter for Girls in Matunga.Though the 'FUN’ day started post-lunch, but the enthusiasm and zeal of girls in Orphanage was appreciable.

It all began with a 'Magic Show' organized for the girls of age-group (6-14 yrs). All Girls were seen engrossed in watching the tricks of magic and enjoying the wonderful act by Magician 'Mr Sooraj.

'Housie' Game was next on the cards for the Girls. A spark of Winning Attitude was observed in practically every little girl in the room. Four early bird prizes were distributed to the winners by the Umang members.

A quiz show was then planned for the girls by Umang member ‘Gaurav Gujare’. He proactively had involved all the girls in the room in his easy but tricky questions. Prizes were distributed on every correct answer to motivate these girls. It was observed that all the girls were so sharp in memory that they remembered each and every Umang member's name even if they spoke to him/her just once.

New Year Celebration without Dance and music always sounds incomplete. So, to make the atmosphere more lively, some girls presented a beautiful group dance on a devotional song. These girls had a dream to perform on a bigger platform at a popular dance show Dance India Dance. Audiences (Umang Members) were spell bound by their talent and performance. Their talent then motivated all the other girls and Umang members to have a dance session on their favorite songs.Umang members also got an opportunity to learn few steps by these young girls.

One of the Umang member ‘Abhilasha Kale’ rightly commented, "This is the first time young children are creating UMANG among all so much that Umang Foundation in real sense served its purpose of organizing this event."

We can truly call them an IT generation since many of them are present on Facebook. And they took e-mail ids from Umang Members. These kids are well versed with what happening in the world. They enjoy study as well as other activities like sports and dance.

• Photographs of the Day:
http://picasaweb.google.co.in/umang.pics/NewYearCelebrationAtSharnam#

Umang Foundation had contributed and raised funds to distribute some gifts for all the girls of the shelter. Girls were thankful to the Team Umang for having bags, personal pouches, table books, sketch pens, cookies and chocolates with added love and care for them. Team Umang have also contributed for yearly soaps and toothpastes of these kids.

The caretaker and founder of ‘SHARNAM’ appreciated the young Team Umang by presenting them a small memorable gift. Good wishes for the Team Umang were just an implicit thing to mention about.Justify Full

This was Umang’s 129th activity. Umang members had thus started their New Year on a very good note.

Kudos to UMANG Foundation!!
